slovenia markets, fishermen, bartenders & hollywood signs

DAY 2

Vigonovo to Budapest

Ron, our host, made us delightful & home-y scrambled eggs, toast, pancakes (American!) & apple cake. As for the drive, more hills, mountains, overcast with some rain. The Slovenian villages are very sweet, and I love seeing the slow change from Mediterranean to cold, Eastern Europe. Red roofs, changing colors of the trees, distinct churches…perched on hillsides, the church is always in the center of the village. Oh, we got fined 150 euros for not having a vignette at the border (sticker on the car that allows us to drive on their highways). That was definitely unexpected, and not at all pleasant. Back to Slovenia though – sheep, very green, lush, the church tower is what is consistent between towns. I love road trips! This is such a unique experience & hopefully the 150 euros is our only big surprise cost. [HA!] Tried manual – got the car started & moving but had trouble switching gears to keep moving. Will try again! [Did not try again]
Ljubljana – capital city of Slovenia! Asia & I got out of the car & started walking down the riverside. There were about 20 men fishing, all with umbrellas! & a market! Lots of old treasures so I thought of Gramma who would have had a ball scouting out the market stalls! I bought an old key that is also a wine opener [KKG love!] Asia & I were mistaken for Italians & “hvala” means “thank you” in Slovenian.

Budapest! Arrived around 7pm, fell in love immediately. The city at night was radiant & like nothing I have ever seen before. We got to our Couchsurfers home [couchsurfing.org], she was Parisian & is doing a stage in Budapest for 6 months or so. Had dinner with her & the 2 other couchsurfers there: pizza, pasta/cabbage salad. Then ventured out to explore Budapest by night! Asia’s camera was INCREDIBLE, as are her photography skills! It brings out the light perfectly & I am now obsessed with the idea of getting a real camera once I finally have the money to do so.

I'll add the Budapest pics in their own post, blogger isn't letting me put up more than 5 pics per post at the moment (grrr).
